Golden Triangle

Funky Communal hangout area with free pool and internet terminals. Free wifi and breakfast. One of the staff at night has many reports of acting crazy and being rude. Very weird layout where you share air-con with the room next door, both of you get a remote control to control it and there is a big hole in the wall in to the other room - no privacy. WARNING: Still bedbugs as of January 2010.

Jalan changkat at jalan nagasari. - a brand new hostel with three air-conditioned dorm rooms, rm33 for a bed. extremely clean. quality fixtures. tile floors and natural stone shower stalls with hot water and good water pressure. free wireless internet. lounge/bar downstairs with beer cheaper than at 7-11. friendly and helpful staff. friends of the owner and the staff come by frequently to hang out. no private rooms.

Clean and comfortable, and generally nice but sometimes moody staff who all seem to live there as well. Includes breakfast toast, tea/coffee, juice. Shared, but clean facilities.

Tune Hotel Downtown KL

316 jalan tuanku abdul rahman, (http://www.tunehotels.com...). owned by air asia so expect low prices, young smiling staff, clean rooms, great bed and extra charges for even minor luxuries air-con, thick towel, breakfast. centrally located next to monorail. prices, as with low-cost airlines, vary depending on when you book. can be as low as rm10 but usual price for late bookings is around rm90 for single room.

Sungei Wang Hotel

Right opposite the main bus terminal, walking distance to Chinatown and a short walk to Bukit Bintang. Rooms are cozy with all the expected modcons - 32" LCD flat screen TV, air-condition, an in-room safe, key card locking system and an ensuite bathroom. The Cafe has an internet station, dishes up a good buffet breakfast and has a small but good selection of local dishes. Rates are very reasonable from MYR 110 onwards rates may vary. Unfortunately, be on the lookout for bedbugs.

Concorde

(http://www.concorde.net/kl/) jalan sultan ismail. tel: +60-3-21442200 - three-star hotel getting a little scruffy around the edges, but still pretty good value in the rm150-200 price bracket. pool and all you'd expect, plus the popular hard rock cafe downstairs. within easy walking distance of jalan p ramlee's nightspots, the bukit nanas monorail station and the petronas towers/klcc. the rooms in the premier wing are a bit more expensive than the regular rooms but they offer services and amenities comparable to hotels of higher category for a remarkably lower price. be careful and do not confuse this with the concorde inn, which is 5 minutes from the airport but far from everywhere else!

Rooms come with two big beds, 32" LCD TV and also free Wi-Fi access in all the rooms.

Swiss Garden Hotel

Ritz Carlton

(http://www.ritzcarlton.co...) 168, jalan imbi - this hotel and residence is connected to starhill gallery and hosts the spa village, one of the best in malaysia. all rooms have 24h butler service and most of them have access to an executive lounge with complimentary internet access and drinks/horderves. for a ritz the rooms are downright frumpy, but service is good and it is cheap for a ritz carlton. internet rates from rm380++.

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

Shangri-La

(http://www.shangri-la.com...) 11 jalan sultan ismail. tel: +60-3-20322388. monorail: bukit nanas - started in the early 80's, this is kuala lumpur's best hotel with excellent service. it has been kept up to date with the owners continually reinvesting in the property. rooms are wonderful and very comfortable, internet is free in the room and the hotel. the restaurants in this beautiful property are generally good with the chinese restaurant actually improving over the years and zipangu setting some new trends for japanese dining although service here is not up to the shangrila standards.the lobby lounge which sadly has lost its classic look is still the lounge in kuala lumpur to enjoy an afternoon tea. the lafite restaurant is now home to damon campbell who has a 'technological' take on many classic dishes.to many in kl, lafite is among the best restaurants but some find this 'molecular' take leaves them a little wanting. the lemon garden cafe has extremely popular buffets book in advance. the location along jalan p ramlee/sultan ismail is popular and many guests make a beeline for the nearby menara hap seng, an office building which also has an brilliant bar/bistro in hakka republic and a relatively goodbut pricey cantonese restaurant in elegant inn.

Sheraton Imperial

(http://www.starwoodhotels...) sultan ismail,phone: 603 2717 9900. situated just beside asian heritage row. rooms have plasma tv, butler service, walk in closet. previously a luxury collection hotel, and the rooms reflect this- nice marble baths with seperate shower, great health club. restaurants ranging from western to eastern. the hotel also provides shuttle service to klcc and kl sentral. may be slightly off the tourist belt but the monorail station is just outside the hotel.
